Associate Design Manager – Data Centres | London | Hybrid Work Model

A leading international M&E consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate Design Manager to join their growing team in either London. This is a hybrid role offering the opportunity to lead major data centre projects across the EMEA region, working at the forefront of sustainable and low-energy design.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a technically strong and commercially aware design professional with a background in mechanical or electrical engineering. The successful candidate will take ownership of large-scale projects, lead multidisciplinary teams, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and innovative engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, coordination, and delivery of major engineering projects.
  • Manage project teams and oversee mechanical or electrical systems design.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, prepare fee bids, and manage project profitability.
  • Represent the consultancy in technical meetings with clients and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, legal requirements, and QA/QC processes.
  • Oversee risk management, performance monitoring, and internal controls.
  • Support project delivery in line with internal project management frameworks.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Degree-qualified in an engineering discipline (BSc/BEng) or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) preferred.
  • Strong background in building services design across various building types.
  • Proficient in engineering software, MS Office, and IT-based calculation tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK building regulations, BS standards, and health & safety legislation.
  • Experience in project financials, including invoicing and credit control.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Previous experience in consultancy or construction environments.
  • Understanding of international project delivery and global consultancy operations.
