Legal Counsel– Exclusive Mandate | Leading Global Asset Manager | London (Hybrid working)


Location: London (3 days in office)

Salary: Competitive + discretionary bonus + benefits

Lawyers are encouraged to explore varied workstreams, from segregated mandates and IMAs to derivatives, restructuring and broader commercial contracting, ensuring continuous development in a supportive flat-structured environment.


The Opportunity


Our client is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their highly respected Legal team. This position has arisen due to team evolution and increased institutional and segregated mandate activity. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across the business, supporting institutional clients, advising on derivatives/trading arrangements, and providing commercial and regulatory legal guidance.


This role blends institutional fund work, derivatives oversight, commercial contracts, and strategic projects, offering a genuinely varied in‑house experience in a business that is evolving quickly and open to innovation.


Key Responsibilities


You will work across the business on matters including:

  • Institutional mandates & segregated account agreements
  • Oversight of derivatives & trading arrangements, working closely with external counsel
  • Transactional matters, including unlisted equity and debt restructuring projects
  • Commercial contracts, including distribution agreements and third‑party service provider arrangements
  • Regulatory matters, particularly UCITS, AIFMD and MiFID considerations
  • Supporting cross‑business stakeholders including Institutional, Operations, Compliance and senior leadership
  • Contributing to team know‑how, precedents and continuous improvement


About You


Essential Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor with 3-6 PQE (top‑tier private practice or strong in‑house background)
  • Financial services/asset management experience, with knowledge of UCITS, AIFMD, MiFID
  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating IMAs, segregated account terms, and institutional arrangements
  • Working knowledge of derivatives documentation and managing external counsel
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to advise the business pragmatically
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills


Desirable but not essential


  • Experience with unlisted equity or debt restructuring matters
  • Previous in‑house or secondment experience
  • Understanding of the FCA Handbook and Consumer Duty considerations
