Job description
I'm currently working with a well-established main contractor, based in Glasgow, to source an experienced Estimator. This contractor delivers a diverse portfolio of projects across commercial, education, community and healthcare sectors. Project values can range from £500k to £10m, but typically sit between £2m to £4m.
Relationship-driven contractor with a strong pipeline of both competitively tendered and negotiated projects. They are selective about what they tender, focusing on quality over quantity. You would typically be responsible for 3–4 tenders per month, allowing time to properly interrogate costs and engage meaningfully with the supply chain. While commercially astute, they favour sitting down with subcontractors to reach fair agreements rather than adopting a heavily contractual or adversarial approach.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions across multiple sectors.
- Manage the tender process from enquiry to submission.
- Price projects ranging from £500k–£10m (typically £2m–£4m).
- Work on approximately 3–4 tenders per month.
- Engage and negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Attend pre and post tender meetings.
- Support value engineering and alternative proposals.
- Ensure thorough handover to delivery teams.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as an Estimator with a main contractor in Scotland.
- Proficiency in Conquest or Causeway estimating software.
- Strong knowledge of Scottish supply chain and market conditions.
