Blackfield Associates is looking for a Project Engineer

Job description

We’re looking for a Project Engineer to join our pharmaceutical client in Oxfordshire on a contract basis, supporting a dynamic Total Facilities Management (TFM) environment. This is an on-site role, five days a week, offering the opportunity to bridge field execution and project coordination across small to mid-scale works.


The Role


As Project Engineer, you will:

  • Deliver a variety of small to mid-scale projects from within a TFM contract
  • Provide hands-on engineering and technical troubleshooting support
  • Conduct equipment and site walkdowns, including interpreting P&IDs and drawings
  • Scope and coordinate small works projects from start to finish
  • Manage snag/punch list resolution and project close-out processes
  • Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution of site activities
  • Maintain full project documentation and provide regular progress updates
  • Drive projects through to successful handover, ensuring operational readiness and asset integration into BAU maintenance


You’ll take ownership of projects end-to-end—managing timelines, risks, compliance, stakeholders, and commercial performance.


What You’ll Bring


Experience

  • 2–7 years’ experience in engineering or project engineering
  • Experience conducting site or equipment walkdowns
  • Exposure to commissioning and installation activities
  • Familiarity with project methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, RIBA) desirable

Skills

  • Strong hands-on technical troubleshooting capability
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and P&IDs
  • Excellent project coordination and organisational skills
  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management ability
  • Commercial awareness and experience managing subcontractors
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and results-driven mindset
  • Experience with CMMS systems (e.g. Maximo or Planon) advantageous

Knowledge

  • Understanding of TFM environments
  • Knowledge of safety standards and site procedures
  • Understanding of project scoping and risk management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial or similar)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS (desirable)
  • Recognised Project Management qualification (desirable)

  • Delivering projects on time and within commercial parameters
  • Managing subcontractor accounts and cost commitments
  • Ensuring SHEQ compliance and adherence to company procedures
  • Providing weekly progress updates
  • Driving innovation and de-risking project delivery
  • Building strong working relationships with clients, site teams, and internal support functions
