Senior Pricing Actuary (Commercial Property) | £900–£1,100 per day (umbrella) | Short-Term Contract | London
My client, a dynamic and growth-focused insurer, is seeking an experienced Senior Pricing Actuary with strong commercial property expertise to support a high-impact pricing and portfolio optimisation initiative.
This is a hands-on contract opportunity for a commercially minded actuary to influence underwriting strategy, enhance pricing sophistication, and drive profitable growth across a complex commercial property book.
You’ll work closely with underwriting, exposure management, and senior leadership teams to deliver data-driven insights that directly impact rate adequacy, risk selection, and capital performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead pricing analysis across the commercial property portfolio, ensuring technical rate adequacy and alignment with target loss ratios
- Develop, refine, and enhance pricing models (including catastrophe loadings and exposure-based rating structures)
- Perform portfolio diagnostics to identify profitability trends by segment, geography, occupancy, and limit profile
- Support underwriting strategy through risk segmentation, reinsurance optimisation, and scenario testing
- Analyse catastrophe exposure (e.g., wind, flood, wildfire) and assess capital impact under stress scenarios
- Partner with underwriting leadership to balance growth ambitions with margin and volatility management
- Deliver clear, commercially focused insights to senior stakeholders, translating technical findings into actionable decisions
- Support regulatory and internal governance requirements where relevant
Ideal Profile
- Qualified or nearly qualified actuary (FIA/FFA or equivalent preferred)
- Strong experience in commercial property pricing within the London Market or UK general insurance
- Proven track record in rate reviews, portfolio optimisation, and underwriting performance analysis
- Experience working with exposure-based and catastrophe-informed pricing frameworks
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, delivery-focused contract environment
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to challenge and influence senior underwriters
- Advanced modelling capability (e.g., R, Python, SQL, Excel/VBA, or pricing platforms such as Radar)
