Business Development Manager

Salary: up to £40,000 + strong commission scheme + car allowance scheme + benefits

Location: Midlands & South of the UK

Hours: Monday to Friday (no weekends)


The Opportunity

Our client is a well-established, customer-focused specialist supplier within the fasteners and fixings sector, serving a global client base through a UK trade-only distribution model.


The business is recognised for its expertise in SEMS fasteners, delivering fully traceable, high-integrity solutions designed to improve assembly efficiency and reliability. Alongside its core SEMS offering, our client supplies non-standard and special fasteners, as well as machined components. Technical excellence sits at the heart of the organisation, with in-house PPAP support up to Level 3, ensuring quality, compliance, and consistency for customers.


Due to continued growth, our client is now seeking a Business Development Manager to drive sales performance and expand market share within the Fastener Distribution sector.


The Role

This position focuses on developing and managing key distributor relationships under a trade-only business model. As the company does not sell directly to OEMs or end users, the successful candidate will work closely with distribution partners to position the business as a primary and preferred supplier.


The core objective of the role is to increase revenue by identifying opportunities where distributors require SEMS fasteners and non-standard / special components.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers and partners to support long-term growth
  • Identify new business opportunities through market research, sector analysis, and territory planning
  • Attend customer meetings, site visits, and project discussions to support specifications and resolve technical or commercial queries
  • Manage your own call cycle, planning visits effectively to maximise time in the field
  • Own the full sales pipeline from lead generation through to negotiation and deal closure
  • Maintain accurate CRM and sales system records to ensure clear visibility of activity and pipeline
  • Build strong technical knowledge of products and services, working closely with internal sales and operations teams
  • Represent the business professionally and uphold company values at all times


Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Proven knowledge of fasteners (distribution experience preferred)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings
  • Strong problem-solving skills and commercial awareness
  • Financial acumen with a strategic approach to territory planning
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and comfortable working autonomously
  • Competent user of IT systems and CRM platforms
