Job Title: Casework Lawyer X2

Working Arrangement: Hybrid Working

Contract: 18 month FTC/Secondment

Salary: £56,0000


Key responsibilities:

Casework and decision making

  • Manage a personal caseload of investigations, enforcement and fitness to practise matters from initial assessment through to outcome
  • Make proportionate and well-reasoned regulatory decisions in line with relevant rules, guidance and delegated authority
  • Handle complex and high-risk matters, including those with reputational or legal sensitivity
  • Prepare cases for internal decision makers, panels or tribunals and support any associated appeals or litigation
  • Draft clear and defensible correspondence, reports, charges and legal documentation

Investigations and enforcement

  • Investigate potential breaches of professional standards, gathering and analysing evidence and identifying appropriate next steps
  • Support and advise on enforcement pathways including sanctions, consensual outcomes and formal proceedings Liaise with internal legal teams and, where required, external counsel on litigation arising from casework
  • Ensure decisions are consistent, proportionate and aligned with policy, procedure and service standards

Collaboration and organisational contribution

  • Work closely with operational, policy and legal colleagues to ensure a coherent approach to investigations and enforcement
  • Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on casework and regulatory processes
  • Contribute to the development and review of policies, procedures and guidance
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality assurance activity
  • Participate in internal meetings, working groups and project work relevant to enforcement functions

Performance and governance

  • Maintain accurate and up to date records on case management systems
  • Ensure work meets agreed KPIs, quality standards and timelines
  • Provide reports and updates to senior colleagues and governance forums as required
  • Identify risks or emerging issues and escalate appropriately


Person specification

Essential

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister or FCILEX in England and Wales, or equivalent common law jurisdiction
  • Experience managing a personal caseload within investigations, enforcement, litigation or regulatory work
  • Strong drafting skills, including preparation of reports, legal correspondence and instructions
  • Experience analysing complex evidence and summarising key issues clearly
  • Knowledge of legal procedures and tribunal or hearing processes
  • Ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions and exercise professional judgement
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
  • Experience dealing with members of the public and a range of stakeholders
  • Good understanding of equality, diversity and fair decision making
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and case management systems
