Role Overview


Senior Quantity Surveyor


We’re looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take the lead on managing project costs, contracts and change processes, ensuring our projects remain commercially efficient and delivered to the highest standards.


In this role, you’ll oversee budget preparation, cost forecasting, interim valuations and final accounts. You’ll support value engineering opportunities and play a key role in commercial governance across the project lifecycle.


You’ll also manage procurement activities, assess and certify subcontract payments, and oversee variation accounts. The Senior QS will take ownership of Extension of Time claims and Loss and Expense submissions where required, ensuring all commercial documentation is accurate and compliant with JCT and NEC contract requirements.


Building strong working relationships, supporting dispute avoidance, and contributing to the company’s quality, safety and risk culture are all important aspects of this position.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyse project budgets and cost forecasts
  • Manage cost control, CVRs and reporting of project financial performance
  • Procure subcontractors and suppliers, including full order documentation
  • Assess, certify and administer subcontract payments
  • Prepare interim valuations and final account submissions
  • Manage and value variations and oversee change control processes
  • Lead preparation of EoT claims and Loss & Expense submissions
  • Identify and manage commercial and financial risks
  • Maintain accurate commercial documentation and records
  • Ensure compliance with JCT / NEC contract procedures
  • Support dispute avoidance and lead resolution processes when needed
  • Produce monthly commercial and cost reports, including cashflow
  • Collaborate closely with project, design and site delivery teams
  • Engage with clients, consultants and supply chain partners
  • Contribute to company governance, quality, H&S and risk standards


Reporting Structure


Reports to: Commercial Manager


Works closely with: Site Teams, Procurement, Preconstruction, Planning, Finance and key Supply Chain partners


Qualifications


Essential:


  • Degree qualified (Quantity Surveying or related discipline)


Experience:


  • 7+ years in a similar role
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Proven experience working with JCT and NEC contracts


Skills:


  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment
  • High level of numerical, analytical and IT competence
  • Capable of working independently and using initiative


Desirable:


  • Experience working on similar project types or sectors
  • Familiarity with cost management software
  • Experience with document/contract management platforms
  • Involvement in value engineering and cost‑optimisation initiatives
  • Professional accreditation (e.g., MCIOB, MRICS)
