Job description

Engineering Manager

We are recruiting an experienced Engineering Manager to join the Innovation & New Product Development (NPD) function of a well-established engineering business delivering bespoke machinery and automated solutions to major blue-chip clients.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an Engineering Manager who enjoys balancing hands-on technical oversight with people leadership, and who wants to play a pivotal role in taking innovative products from concept through to manufacture.

The Role

As Engineering Manager, you will take ownership of the end-to-end delivery of engineering design projects, ensuring technical excellence, commercial awareness, and on-time delivery. You’ll lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers while working closely with cross-functional stakeholders to bring new products and continuous improvements to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver product development projects, ensuring designs meet customer, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage mechanical design activities including materials selection, manufacturing methods, and Design for Manufacture / Assembly (DfM/DfA).
  • Produce and oversee full drawing packs, Bills of Materials (BoMs), and technical documentation, supporting SAP and compliance needs.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture.
  • Work closely with Innovation, R&D, and Manufacturing teams to translate concepts into robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement, lean engineering principles, and best practice across the engineering function.

About You

The successful Engineering Manager will bring:

  • Proven experience in an engineering design, NPD, or innovation-driven environment.
  • Strong people leadership and line management experience.
  • Extensive CAD capability (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar), including sheet metal design.
  • A solid understanding of manufacturing processes, supplier engagement, and lean engineering principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across multiple departments.

What’s on Offer

  • Hybrid working and flexible hours.
  • The opportunity to work on technically interesting, bespoke engineering projects.
  • A supportive and professional culture that values innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Long-term career development within a market-leading engineering organisation.
