A leading US law firm is looking for a Conflicts Attorney to join its London-based Risk & Compliance team.
The Conflicts Attorney role is a key advisory position supporting the firm’s lawyers on complex conflicts, ethics and professional responsibility matters across a broad range of practice areas and jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities for the Conflicts Attorney role:
- Advise partners and lawyers on conflicts of interest, confidentiality and professional responsibility issues arising from new matters, lateral hires and ongoing representations
- Analyse and resolve complex conflicts, including corporate affiliations, positional conflicts, waivers and ethical screens
- Draft, review and negotiate conflicts waivers, engagement letters and related client communications
- Provide guidance on the firm’s conflicts and risk management policies, ensuring compliance with SRA rules, US ethical standards and internal firm requirements
- Support the opening of new matters and clients, acting as an escalation point for the Conflicts and New Business Intake teams
- Advise on conflicts issues relating to lateral partner and team hires, including portfolio reviews and risk assessments
- Assist with the development and enhancement of conflicts policies, procedures and training materials
- Deliver training to lawyers and business services teams on conflicts and professional responsibility topics
- Liaise closely with colleagues in the US and other international offices to ensure a consistent global approach to conflicts management
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer
- Previous experience advising on conflicts and professional responsibility matters within a law firm or in-house legal environment
- Strong knowledge of conflicts of interest principles, confidentiality obligations and ethical rules
- Experience working with complex, multi-jurisdictional matters
