Job description
If you’re looking to make a real commercial impact within one of the UK’s most influential retail and wholesale businesses, this is a standout opportunity. Our client is a major player in the food, drink and FMCG sector, offering a collaborative, commercially driven environment where strong supplier relationships and smart negotiation genuinely move the dial.
The Opportunity
The Senior Buyer role is pivotal in delivering commercial value through effective negotiation, supplier partnerships and promotional planning. You’ll take ownership of your categories, agreeing central terms, shaping strategic supplier relationships and ensuring customers benefit from competitive pricing, compelling promotions and well‑executed marketing activity. Your decisions will directly influence profitability and support wider income targets, making this an ideal role for someone who thrives on commercial accountability, stakeholder engagement and driving results.
Key Responsibilities
In this challenging and exciting role, your responsibilities will include negotiating trading terms across overriders, advertising agreements and other income streams, while delivering annual income budgets across central terms and national agreements. You’ll build strong supplier relationships to maximise opportunities and deliver meaningful ROI, alongside developing and executing promotional programmes and category initiatives that drive sales and margin. You’ll also take full ownership of category income forecasting, providing regular updates to senior stakeholders.
Skills & Competencies
To be considered for this role, you’ll bring strong commercial acumen, excellent negotiation and influencing skills, and confident communication at all levels. You’ll be highly organised, able to manage a demanding workload, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively. Strong IT skills (particularly Microsoft Office) and polished presentation ability are essential. You’ll also have a solid understanding of Wholesale and Retail, strong knowledge of the trade, analytical capability, proven supplier‑relationship experience and awareness of competitor strategies and market dynamics.
What you’ll get in return
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and package including car or car allowance, achievable bonus, healthcare and generous holidays. You’ll work in a vibrant, supportive environment with a blend of office time and home working. This is a business committed to creating a great place to work and empowering people to play a key role in its growth.
What to do now
If you have the background, skills and experience outlined above and are ready for a new challenge where you can make a real impact, please apply with an up‑to‑date CV.
