Job description
Lead QA Automation Engineer (UK Remote • Up to £85k)
Build quality into the technology powering scientific breakthroughs.
If you’re a QA leader who wants to contribute to something bigger than product releases, someone who wants their work to advance scientific discovery, accelerate research, and improve real‑world outcomes, then this is the kind of role that defines careers.
You’ll join a high‑growth science‑technology organisation building intelligent platforms that automate complex scientific workflows, accelerate data‑driven experimentation, and support critical decisions in sectors such as biotech, genomics, medical diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, climate science, and advanced R&D.
This isn’t a typical QA job. This is your chance to shape quality strategy at the heart of software used by scientists and researchers around the world.
⭐ Why this role matters
Our platform is used in environments where accuracy isn’t optional, it's essential. Whether supporting lifesaving medical research, analysing high resolution scientific datasets, or powering automated lab systems, the reliability of our software is mission critical.
As Lead QA Automation Engineer, your work directly enables breakthroughs by ensuring scientists can trust the systems they depend on to explore, test, and innovate.
What you’ll lead
As our Lead QA Automation Engineer, you will:
- Architect and evolve advanced automation frameworks that support scientific and data intensive workloads
- Define and drive quality engineering practices across multiple teams
- Own end to end test strategy, from automation to performance, integration, and resilience
- Identify automation opportunities that accelerate experiments and reduce manual validation
- Support testing across scientific data pipelines, analytical tools, and complex workflow engines
- Ensure quality for multi‑browser, cross‑region scientific web apps
- Collaborate closely with Product, Data, and Engineering teams to shift quality left
- Mentor teams and embed a strong culture of technical excellence
What you bring
We're looking for a QA leader who blends technical depth with domain awareness:
- Significant experience in automation driven QA roles
- Strong TypeScript/JavaScript engineering skills (React familiarity beneficial)
- Expertise with Playwright (Cypress/Selenium a bonus)
- Solid experience designing CI/CD‑integrated automation pipelines
- Experience with Xray, JIRA, BDD frameworks (Gherkin/Cucumber)
- Background in high‑complexity, high‑integrity environments such as science, medical, R&D, healthcare, biosciences, or regulated industries
- A proactive, detail‑driven mindset with a passion for reliability and precision
- Comfort working with cross‑disciplinary teams, including scientists, data engineers, and ML specialists
If you're excited by the idea of ensuring quality in systems that drive real scientific impact, you’ll thrive here.
What’s in it for you

- Work in a sector where your contribution genuinely moves scientific progress forward
- Build QA foundations for cutting edge platforms used in labs, research centres, and scientific organisations worldwide
- Join a rapidly scaling science tech company with long‑term progression
