Job description
Control Systems Engineer
I’m currently partnering with a top-tier engineering consultancy that is effectively redefining what is possible in the maritime sector. Born from the high-stakes, fast-paced world of America’s Cup racing, this firm has pivoted its world-class expertise toward global decarbonisation. They aren't just a design house; they are a multidisciplinary innovation hub seeking the best and brightest engineers from maritime, automotive, and aerospace backgrounds to solve the industry’s most complex performance and sustainability challenges.
This company has moved well beyond the R&D phase and is now in a significant scale-up phase following landmark orders for its patented wind-propulsion technology. They have recently secured major contracts for dual-fuel tankers and are expanding their portfolio across commercial shipping, workboats, and the high-performance leisure sector.
The seat is empty because the team is growing to meet the demands of "first of class" deliveries. You’ll be joining at a pivotal moment where your work translates directly into award-winning, real-world hardware that is already proving to reduce emissions by over 30% in active service.
Forget standard "maintenance" engineering; this role sits at the early-stage concept and development level. You will be responsible for the design and support of complex control systems that drive "foiling flight" and wing propulsion.
- The Complexity: You’ll be utilizing Matlab/Simulink for high-fidelity modelling and simulation of dynamic vessel systems.
- The Integration: You will work cross-functionally with Naval Architects and Mechanical Engineers to integrate flight control solutions, hybridisation, and electrification into the overall vessel architecture.
- The Desk: The focus is on precision—specifying sensors and actuators for real-time applications and developing robust control algorithms that can handle the unique dynamics of foiling at scale.
This is a high-autonomy, high-intellect environment. The team is comprised of elite specialists from F1, America's Cup, and Aerospace, creating a culture that values first-principles thinking over corporate red tape. It is a "heads-up" collaborative studio where the pace is fast, but the barriers between a concept and a physical launch are incredibly short. Despite their global impact, it remains a tight-knit "cottage industry" environment where reputation and technical integrity are the primary drivers.
The Requirement
- Degree-qualified (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Electrical, Control Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
- Proven proficiency in Matlab/Simulink for modelling and simulation.
- Strong C/C++ skills for the implementation of control algorithms.
- A background in high-performance sectors (Automotive, Aerospace, or Marine) where precision is non-negotiable.
