Electrical Design Engineer

Energi People is looking for a Electrical Design Engineer

Job description

Electrical Design Engineers (All Levels) – Cambridge

A leading UK engineering consultancy is expanding its Cambridge team and is seeking Electrical Design Engineers at all levels. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high‑performing, sustainable buildings across sectors such as science & research, healthcare, commercial, and complex engineering environments.

About the Organisation

You’ll be joining a consultancy known for its human‑centred and sustainability‑driven approach to engineering. The business delivers a wide range of specialist services, including building services (MEP), acoustics, air quality, fire, lighting, security and sustainability, helping to shape exceptional buildings and environments across the UK and internationally.

The culture places strong emphasis on wellbeing, individuality, and professional growth. Team members benefit from hybrid working, a 9‑day fortnight option, thriving community groups, social and networking events, and extensive technical development programmes. A comprehensive benefits package includes private medical cover, an electric vehicle scheme, stock options, and up to 30 days of annual leave.

The Opportunity

The Cambridge office plays a key role in delivering complex, high‑profile projects, particularly within science & research and healthcare. The team is growing both in the UK and internationally, offering the stability of a large consultancy with the close‑knit feel of a smaller, innovative office.

As part of the electrical engineering team, you will contribute to the design and delivery of a wide range of building projects. Senior candidates will take on greater responsibility for technical leadership, client engagement, and project delivery, while engineers at earlier career stages will receive strong support and development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed, coordinated and cost‑effective electrical design solutions for a diverse client base.
  • Produce specifications, calculations and technical reports with clarity and accuracy.
  • Design electrical systems using modern software tools and industry‑leading methodologies.
  • Deliver high‑quality technical outputs independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to innovation, research and continuous improvement in design processes.
  • Attend design team meetings, client meetings and undertake site inspections.
  • Manage your workload effectively, responding to multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Senior candidates will lead elements of project delivery and support junior colleagues.

About You

Applications are welcomed from Electrical Design Engineers at all levels, from early‑career to senior.

Depending on your level, you may bring:

  • Experience delivering electrical engineering designs across a range of building projects.
  • Knowledge of electrical services including lighting, fire alarms, security, data, containment and small power.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment with strong communication skills.
  • Familiarity with BIM and design tools such as Revit, Electrical OM, Dialux or Relux.
  • Understanding of relevant British Standards and modern technical delivery processes.
  • A collaborative mindset, openness to learning, and a positive approach to teamwork.
  • For senior roles: consultancy experience and a proven track record of leading technical delivery.
