A major UK rail operator is expanding its data capability within the commercial team. Operating over 1,500 services every day, the business relies heavily on understanding passenger behaviour, network demand, and station usage to optimise services and improve customer experience.
They are hiring a Data Scientist to join a growing data team responsible for extracting deeper insights from large operational datasets. The role offers the chance to work across predictive modelling, geospatial analysis, and commercial analytics while collaborating closely with stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and deploy predictive models using Python and machine learning techniques
• Conduct exploratory analysis across transport and mobility datasets
• Perform geospatial analysis to understand customer journeys and station catchment areas
• Work with stakeholders to scope and deliver data science projects
• Analyse complex datasets including mobile network mobility data
• Communicate insights through clear visualisations and dashboards
• Collaborate with Data Engineers and Analysts across the data function
Key Details
• Salary: Up to £52k
• Working model: Hybrid – 2–3 days per week (near Waterloo Station)
• Tech stack: Python, SQL, Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI
