Lead Data Engineer

Rate: Up to £600pd Inside IR35

Location: Gloucester – Hybrid

Duration: Initial 6 Month contract with scope for extension

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer to act as the technical SME across 5–6 scrum teams, providing engineering leadership, guidance and problem-solving to ensure high-quality, scalable delivery on the Snowflake platform.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as technical SME and escalation point for engineering challenges
• Guide design decisions, best practices and solution approaches
• Support teams to overcome blockers and optimise delivery timelines
• Balance engineering quality with pragmatic delivery trade-offs
• Liaise with operational teams on platform stability and issues
• Champion engineering standards and continuous improvement

Skills & experience

• Strong background as a senior/staff data engineer
• Snowflake, SQL and Matillion expertise
• Experience across data pipelines, ETL/ELT and BI engineering
• Technical leadership across multiple teams (non-people management)
• Strong troubleshooting and decision-making capability
