Principal Digital Electronics Engineer x 2

£84.55 per hour (inside IR35)
Hybrid working (Portsmouth)
This is a senior technical role relating to the electronic aspects of hardware design. A highly experienced professional engineer with a depth and breadth of knowledge in Electronics Engineering who speaks and acts authoritatively on matters pertaining to their discipline, leading and applying the principles of Electronics Engineering across the entire engineering development lifecycle from requirement definition to system integration and customer acceptance into system support and disposal.
Employs a depth and breadth of expertise relating to Digital Electronics Engineering to the most complex engineering problems, challenges, and issues associated with the domain. Designs, develops, promotes and shares discipline knowledge and capability for implementation across the business and programmes, providing authoritative guidance to others relating to area of expertise.
Acts as design authority for designs that the role holder / team is undertaking. Liaises with other teams and disciplines to ensure a consistent approach across the whole radar system.
Typical duties include (but are not limited to):
Providing support to the SDA regarding overall Radar System design and providing design documents and technical reports.
Digital Sub-system hardware definition. Responsible for the specification and design of all the digital components within the radar system. This can be for either in-house designed units or COTS hardware.
Responsible for VHDL design, code, simulation, test and integration, mentoring other engineers on these aspects.
Design verification using a combination of simulation, analysis, and test techniques including support to EMC test houses and customer installations
Radar System Timing generation â€" Generating timing a rule sets for the software scheduling and hardware real time interface to achieve the required system performance.
System BITE â€" ensuring a common reporting standard that can be used in all systems moving forward. Making sure we have sufficient BITE coverage across the antenna sub-systems.
System Design Assurance â€" ensuring there is enough built in functionality to support design assurance. Also contributing to the generation of the system design assurance specification.
Knowledge:
A solid understanding of the digital techniques design process including requirements generation, design and implementation. Knowledge of complex digital PCB design. Knowledge of digital devices in particular FPGAs.
An understanding of electronic disciplines (digital, analogue, RF and electrical) Enough knowledge to be able to specify against these technologies and communicate with specialists in these areas.
Skills:
Experience in the whole design process from requirements to design assurance and sign off.
Experience in sub-system and system integration and test.
Experience in large data analysis.
Qualifications:
A degree in Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject.
