Job description

About the Role:

We are working with a well-established, multidisciplinary engineering group to find a Principal Civil Engineer for their UK power and renewables team. This is a key hire for a business unit that is seeing sustained growth across low-carbon and conventional power generation sectors.

You will lead civil engineering work packages across a range of project types, providing technical leadership from early-stage feasibility through to detailed design and construction support. The role offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of civil engineering design and delivery for power generation and infrastructure projects.
  • Produce and review designs, specifications, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Provide hands-on support during site investigations, inspections, and construction phases.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Identify and manage technical, safety, and commercial risks.
  • Contribute to bids, proposals, and client relationships.
  • Support and mentor less experienced engineers within the team.

Candidate Requirements:

We are looking for a chartered engineer with a strong technical background and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (2:1 or above).
  • Chartered status with a recognised UK body (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
  • Sound knowledge of relevant design standards and codes of practice.
  • Experience in foundation design, structural assessment, or similar is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with design software and collaborative working environments is helpful but not essential.
  • Previous experience in a consultancy or client-facing role is desirable.

What You Can Expect:

  • A varied and interesting workload across the energy sector.
  • Genuine opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • A supportive team culture with flexible and hybrid working options.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
