Principal Engineer (Technology)
South East – Basingstoke, Guildford or Maidstone
£46,000 – £55,000 (DOE)
The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Engineer (Technology) to join a highways technology engineering team within a major infrastructure organisation.
This role focuses on identifying asset needs and developing early-stage solutions for highways technology assets, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, policies and safety requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and evaluating asset condition data to identify renewal and improvement needs
- Developing early-stage technical solutions and cost estimates
- Producing documentation to support value management and investment decisions
- Preparing technical briefs for design teams
- Monitoring scheme development and liaising with delivery teams to resolve issues
- Ensuring health & safety considerations are embedded throughout planning and delivery
Please note: This role requires regional travel and a full UK driving licence (maximum 3 points).
About You
- Degree or HND in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in asset condition assessment and degradation modelling
- Understanding of value management / cost-benefit analysis
- Experience developing and managing scheme budgets
- Knowledge of construction delivery methods and CDM 2015
- Background in highways technology / ITS / infrastructure asset management preferred
This is a senior-level engineering role suited to candidates with strong asset lifecycle knowledge and experience developing early-stage infrastructure solutions.
