Inquests Solicitor – Birmingham – Up to £75,000
A highly regarded national law firm is seeking an Inquests Solicitor to join its top-tier, nationally ranked team, advising health and social care clients across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within one of the largest specialist teams in the country, handling complex and sensitive matters for NHS bodies, local authorities and independent sector providers, with exposure to advocacy, advisory work and high-profile cases.
The Role
- Manage a caseload of inquest and Court of Protection matters, primarily for NHS clients, with appropriate supervision
- Conduct advocacy where suitable and manage cases largely without recourse to counsel
- Advise on a broader range of health and social care advisory matters, including mental health, mental capacity, safeguarding and deprivation of liberty
- Support work on serious medical treatment cases, welfare disputes and Human Rights Act matters as opportunities arise
- Deliver proactive, strategic and commercially focused advice to clients
- Supervise and delegate work to junior team members where appropriate
- Contribute to client training, seminars and wider business development activity
- Meet agreed billing targets and support the team’s client service objectives
- Undertake short-term client secondments where required
The Candidate
- Qualified solicitor with 1+ PQE
- Experience in inquests and/or Court of Protection work, including health and welfare matters
- Advocacy and case management experience in a relevant setting
- Experience advising within health and social care is advantageous
- Strong drafting, analytical and communication skills
- Confident managing complex, sensitive matters with attention to detail
- Able to work collaboratively within a national team and supervise junior colleagues
- Organised, commercially aware and comfortable managing deadlines and targets
