Job description

Senior HR Officer

Oxford | Hybrid Working | Full-Time - TO £45000

Ready to take the next step in your HR career?

Looking for a varied generalist role where you can build confidence in employee relations and advisory work?

Keen to join a large, well-structured organisation where you can develop your HR expertise in a supportive environment?

Our client is seeking a proactive and capable Senior HR Officer to join their established People team in Oxford. This is a fantastic opportunity for an HR professional who already has solid generalist experience and is ready to broaden their exposure to complex casework, stakeholder support and operational HR delivery.

With hybrid working available and a collaborative team around you, this role offers progression, variety and stability in equal measure.

Why This Role is Great

This position offers a strong mix of operational HR and advisory responsibility, giving you the chance to develop confidence across the full employee lifecycle.

You will enjoy:

  • Supporting the delivery of a professional and people-focused HR service
  • Managing day-to-day HR operations including recruitment, onboarding, contracts and employee changes
  • Advising managers on HR policies and processes with guidance from senior colleagues where needed
  • Supporting employee relations cases including absence, conduct, grievance and performance matters
  • Managing right-to-work and visa processes in line with UK legislation
  • Overseeing payroll changes and ensuring data accuracy within HR systems
  • Monitoring probation periods, leave records and contract end dates
  • Contributing to HR process improvements and policy updates
  • Line managing and developing an HR Officer

This role provides excellent exposure to advisory work while still offering the support of experienced HR leadership when handling more complex matters.

About You

You are already working in a busy HR environment and feel ready to step into a broader generalist role with more advisory responsibility.

You will likely bring:

  • Experience in an HR Officer or HR Advisor role
  • Practical knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
  • Exposure to employee relations casework with the confidence to support managers
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A high level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential matters
  • Confidence using HR systems and working accurately with data
  • Some experience supporting or supervising colleagues, or an interest in developing management capability
  • Experience in larger or more complex organisations would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Candidates with transferable skills and a strong HR foundation are encouraged to apply.

What You Will Gain

  • Broader exposure to employee relations and advisory HR work
  • Line management experience in a supportive setting
  • The opportunity to contribute to process improvement initiatives
  • A structured and professional working environment
  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • Competitive salary in the region of £35,000 to £45,000 depending on experience
  • Generous holiday allowance and pension provision

This role is ideal for someone looking to consolidate their HR experience and take a confident step toward future HR Advisor or HR Business Partner opportunities.
