Site Manager – Recycling & Biomass

Salary: From £50,000 per year

Permanent | Full-Time

Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Site Manager to take full operational responsibility for a busy recycling and biomass facility.

This is a key leadership role overseeing the safe, compliant, and commercially efficient operation of a high-volume site running 6–7 days per week with a team of up to 15 staff.

The Role

As Site Manager, you will be accountable for all day-to-day site activities, ensuring production targets are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of health & safety and environmental compliance.

You will lead from the front — managing heavy plant operations, supervising staff, overseeing weighbridge activities, and driving continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities

Site Operations

  • Take full responsibility for safe, efficient daily site operations
  • Oversee wood recycling, biomass processing, aggregates, and green waste activities
  • Plan workloads to meet throughput and production targets
  • Manage heavy plant operations (shredders, loaders, excavators, crushers, etc.)
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping, traffic management, and material flow

People Management

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of up to 15 employees
  • Manage rotas to support a 6–7 day operation
  • Conduct inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing training
  • Drive a strong safety culture and positive team environment

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation
  • Maintain Environmental Permit and Waste Management compliance
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations
  • Liaise with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders

Weighbridge & Administration

  • Oversee accurate recording of inbound/outbound materials
  • Ensure all waste documentation and duty of care requirements are met
  • Monitor KPIs including tonnage, downtime, and site performance
  • Report performance and improvement plans to senior management

Commercial & Continuous Improvement

  • Control site costs and improve operational efficiency
  • Identify opportunities to increase recovery and reduce waste
  • Support the ongoing growth and development of the site

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Proven experience managing a recycling, waste, biomass, or aggregates site
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety and environmental compliance
  • Experience leading teams and managing heavy plant operations
  • Hands-on, confident decision-maker
  • Strong IT and administrative skills

Desirable:

  • WAMITAB qualification (or working towards)
  • Experience in wood recycling, biomass, or green waste
  • Weighbridge management experience
