Technical Sales Engineer – International

Location: Europe (Remote)

Contract Type: Independent Contractor

Travel: 70%+ International Travel

About the Role

A growing engineering and manufacturing organisation serving the aerospace and defence sector is seeking a Technical Sales Engineer – International to support its global growth strategy.

This role is a key part of the organisation’s international sales function and focuses on developing new markets, managing channel partners, and building strong customer relationships across global territories. The successful candidate will work closely with senior decision-makers within aerospace and defence organisations while helping drive sales growth through a structured and strategic sales approach.

Key Responsibilities

International Sales Growth

  • Support the organisation’s global growth strategy by identifying and developing new sales opportunities within assigned regions.
  • Develop and execute territory and channel sales strategies to drive profitable growth.
  • Build a pipeline of opportunities through proactive outreach, networking, and customer engagement.
  • Analyse market potential and cost-of-sales to maximise the return on commercial activities.

Customer & Partner Development

  • Establish strong relationships with senior and executive-level stakeholders at customer organisations, distributors, and channel partners.
  • Conduct regular in-person visits with key customers to identify opportunities and ensure long-term satisfaction.
  • Develop and manage strategic channel partners and distributors, including coaching, training, and performance monitoring.
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews with partners to review KPIs and growth initiatives.

Account Management & Sales Execution

  • Develop target account strategies and quarterly customer engagement plans.
  • Implement structured processes for account mapping, forecasting, and sales planning.
  • Identify accounts at risk and develop action plans to ensure customer retention.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure successful opportunity execution and customer satisfaction.

Market Intelligence & Customer Insights

  • Capture and analyse Voice of Customer feedback and communicate insights to internal product and engineering teams.
  • Monitor industry developments within aerospace and defence markets and gather competitive intelligence.
  • Support marketing activities such as trade shows, exhibitions, and product launches.

Sales Operations & Reporting

  • Track sales performance using defined KPIs and reporting processes.
  • Maintain structured pre- and post-sales engagement reporting aligned with disciplined sales methodologies.
  • Ensure adherence to internal sales processes, systems, and applicable quality standards (ISO / AS).

Skills & Experience

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of technical sales experience within engineering or technology-driven industries.
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting international sales growth outside the Americas.
  • Minimum 3 years managing sales channels, distributors, or partner networks.
  • Experience selling into aerospace, defence, or highly regulated technical markets is highly desirable.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical background.
  • Additional training or education in business or management is advantageous.

Technical Knowledge

Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following areas is beneficial:

  • RF or Ethernet cable technologies
  • Aircraft systems
  • Aerospace and defence platforms or components

  • Additional European languages are beneficial

Work Environment

  • This position is fully remote, allowing work from a dedicated home office anywhere in Europe.
  • Regular collaboration occurs through virtual meetings with global teams.
  • Occasional travel may be required to the organisation’s headquarters in North America.

Travel Requirements

  • More than 70% travel is expected, including travel within Europe and internationally to meet customers, partners, and attend industry events.

Contract Terms

As the hiring organisation is based outside Europe and does not operate a legal entity within the region, this role will be offered on a contractor basis.

The successful candidate will:

  • Operate as a self-employed contractor or through a registered business entity
  • Be responsible for their own tax and legal compliance within their jurisdiction
