Job description
If you’re an experienced engineer who enjoys digging into complex systems and proving that things genuinely work the way they should, this could be a brilliant next step. You’d be joining a highly respected engineering environment working on one of the UK’s most advanced defence technology programmes. It’s a role where your judgement, analytical thinking and systems knowledge really matter, and where you’ll be trusted to make technical calls that influence real-world capability.
Alongside genuinely interesting engineering work, the role also comes with a strong benefits package and long-term stability.
What’s on offer
- Company bonus of up to £2,500 based on performance
- Pension contribution up to 14% combined employer and employee
- Opportunity for paid overtime
- Flexi leave with up to 15 additional days
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
- Enhanced parental leave with up to 26 weeks for maternity, adoption and shared parental leave
- Additional enhancements for paternity, neonatal leave and fertility testing and treatments
- Healthcare Cash Plan covering everyday healthcare costs such as dental, optical and wellbeing
- Excellent on-site facilities including subsidised meals and free parking
About the role
This position sits within a cutting-edge Laser Directed Energy Weapon development programme and focuses on verification and validation of the physical product at system level.
The role centres on ensuring that the physical system meets requirements and certification standards through a mix of analysis, evidence-based justification and targeted testing where required.
You’ll be responsible for coordinating verification activities across subsystem teams and suppliers, reviewing technical evidence, and building robust certification arguments that demonstrate compliance with system requirements.
A key part of the role involves determining when analysis and engineering evidence can justify compliance, rather than relying solely on physical testing. This requires strong technical judgement and confidence to challenge assumptions where needed.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Managing Design Verification Plans and verification requirements
- Producing physical design compliance statements for system reviews
- Assessing the impact of design changes on verification and certification activities
- Reviewing subsystem documentation and datasheets to support compliance arguments
- Identifying evidence gaps and defining verification activities to address them
- Logging and tracking defects found during V&V activities and working with development teams to resolve them
- Leading technical progress meetings and milestone reviews with suppliers
- Supporting engineering lifecycle activities including design reviews such as PDR, DDR and CDR
- Coordinating work packages across internal teams and external partners
- Managing schedule, cost, quality and performance metrics for assigned activities
- Supporting regulatory documentation such as CE marking and technical publications
You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams including systems, mechanical, electrical and software specialists to ensure the overall product remains aligned with system requirements and programme commitments.
What you’ll need
We’re looking for a senior engineer with strong experience in verification, certification or system validation of complex hardware products.
You’ll ideally have:
- Experience applying systems engineering principles and practices
- Strong understanding of verification and validation activities
- Experience developing or managing Design Verification Plans (DVP) or similar documentation
- Knowledge of requirements engineering at system, subsystem or component level
- Experience with hardware system design, build or integration
- Familiarity with test procedures and gathering evidence for product certification
- Confidence presenting technical information and influencing engineering decisions
- Experience writing technical reports and working with configuration management tools
Security clearance
Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be a British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship and will need to undergo BPSS security checks following offer.
What you’ll get
This is a chance to play a key role in a highly advanced defence programme where verification and certification are critical to success. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, influence system-level decisions and contribute to technology that genuinely pushes engineering boundaries, all while benefiting from a strong package, flexible working and long-term programme stability
If you’d like to have an informal chat before applying, I’d be happy to arrange one.
