About the Company

Our client is a leading global water infrastructure and engineering company delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across the water sector. Following the successful award of several major long-term frameworks within the UK water industry, the company is expanding its engineering capability and is seeking five Process Design Engineers to support the delivery of key clean water and wastewater projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team working on large-scale infrastructure programmes focused on improving water quality, sustainability, and resilience.

Role Overview

As a Process Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and optimisation of water and wastewater treatment processes across a range of infrastructure projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop process solutions from concept through to detailed design, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop process designs for water, wastewater, and clean water treatment facilities.
• Produce process calculations, mass balances, and hydraulic profiles.
• Prepare Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and technical specifications.
• Support the concept, feasibility, and detailed design phases of projects.
• Work collaboratively with civil, mechanical, electrical, and control engineers.
• Participate in HAZOP, design reviews, and risk assessments.
• Provide technical input for bids, tenders, and framework delivery projects.
• Support site teams during commissioning and start-up when required.
• Ensure designs meet environmental regulations, water quality standards, and client specifications.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience in water treatment, wastewater treatment, or clean water process design.
• Strong understanding of water treatment technologies such as filtration, clarification, biological treatment, sludge treatment, or membrane processes.
• Experience producing process calculations and design documentation.
• Familiarity with UK water industry standards and regulatory frameworks is advantageous.
• Ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Experience

• Typically 3+ years’ experience in process design within the water industry.
• Experience working within engineering consultancies, utilities, or EPC contractors is beneficial.
• Experience delivering projects under UK water frameworks is desirable.
