Job description

The role:


The Fluid & Thermal Engineer is required to define cooling system designs for aircraft electrical power generators and electrical motors. The role holder will be responsible for conducting thermo-fluid analysis and for the design and selection of key cooling system components to optimise the thermal performance of new and existing machine products.


The Fluid and Thermal Engineer will provide specialist engineering support to programs and operations. The Fluid and Thermal Engineer will be required to support multiple different projects.


Principal accountabilities


Thermal modelling and analysis to accurately predict the thermal performance of new machine designs, with Engineering reports issued as required to support the programs.

Perform thermal analysis and provide technical summaries to support new business inquiries, RFIs and Proposals


Key performance measures


Thermal modelling and analysis carried out using appropriate tools as per the needs of the project. Design Reviews of new products passed on time. Milestones delivered on time to support targets. Operational queries answered within the agreed timelines


Knowledge, skills and experience


  • Degree educated in an appropriate Engineering discipline
  • Competent user of Ansys Thermal / Fluids analysis tools: Ansys Workbench, Fluent, SpaceClaim/Discovery, MotorCAD
  • Confident with principles of thermo & fluid dynamics and able to show how theory demonstrates system behaviours/assumptions e.g. Using 1D hand calculations.
  • Beneficial – Experience of Thermo-Fluid design simulation for rotating electrical machines.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, formally and informally with peer group, other team members.
  • Must be comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
  • Work Package Leadership with a proactive and energetic style.
  • Ability to work within agreed timescales and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Produce and deliver presentations to project teams.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office
