Design Engineer

We’re working with a fast-growing infrastructure business delivering EV charging and energy projects across the UK.

They are building out their internal engineering capability as they scale, and are now looking to bring in an Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of design across a growing project portfolio.

This is a key hire; particularly suited to someone who wants to move beyond “just design” and play a more influential role in how projects are delivered.

The Opportunity

You’ll be responsible for the electrical design of EV charging infrastructure, working across projects from early-stage feasibility through to delivery.

This role sits at the intersection of design, grid, and delivery, working closely with DNOs, ICPs, civils teams, and project managers.

It’s ideal for someone who enjoys solving real-world infrastructure challenges, not just producing drawings.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Producing electrical designs for EV charging infrastructure (AC & DC)
• Designing LV networks, with exposure to HV interfaces and grid connections
• Supporting grid connection processes (DNO/IDNO/ICP coordination)
• Developing:
• SLDs (Single Line Diagrams)
• Cable sizing & routing
• Protection considerations
• Load assessments & demand calculations
• Supporting site feasibility and technical due diligence
• Working closely with delivery teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable
• Contributing to design standards and continuous improvement

What We’re Looking For

• Strong background in electrical design (ideally within infrastructure or utilities)
• Experience with LV design, with some exposure to HV or grid connections
• Understanding of DNO processes and connection requirements
• Experience producing SLDs and electrical design documentation
• Comfortable working across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Bonus Experience

• EV charging or energy infrastructure
• ICP / utility / renewables background
• Experience with high-power systems or DC charging
• Software such as AutoCAD Electrical, Trimble, or similar
