Carbon Conversion Technician

The Green Recruitment Company is looking for a Carbon Conversion Technician

Job description

TGRC is excited to partner with a UK-based applied science and advanced engineering company leading the way in industrial innovation. Using a multi-disciplinary approach across automotive, aerospace, and chemical sectors, the company is advancing sustainability by helping manufacturers adopt carbon-derived silica while dramatically reducing emissions.

We are looking for a hands-on laboratory professional to play a pivotal role in developing innovative processes that leverage CO₂ to produce essential materials. In this role, you will work closely with the Research and Process Development teams, supporting the setup and operation of lab-scale chemical reactor experiments that feed directly into commercial process design, intellectual property creation, and delivering value to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Laboratory Operations

  • Lead daily laboratory activities, ensuring smooth workflow and compliance with SOPs.
  • Maintain essential lab facilities, including safety systems, storage, supplies, and gas cylinders.
  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to support procurement, delivery, and servicing of lab equipment.
  • Keep all safety documentation - laboratory handbook, risk assessments, COSHH, emergency procedures - current and accessible.
  • Conduct regular checks and audits of safety systems and laboratory spaces.

Laboratory Process & Development

  • Set up, operate, and clean chemical reactors and other process equipment.
  • Collaborate with Research and Process Development teams to design and implement experimental plans.
  • Collect, analyse, and communicate data to support process understanding and scale-up decisions.
  • Assist with coordination, installation, and commissioning of new equipment and process modifications.
  • Operate analytical techniques to monitor and quantify experimental outcomes, including mass, temperature, LOI, gas chromatography, and colorimetry.
  • Troubleshoot and optimise equipment and process performance to ensure consistent operation.

Requirements

  • Experienced and adaptable laboratory or pilot-scale technician with a strong interest in sustainable manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Background in chemical process operations at laboratory or pilot scale.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams to develop and scale up novel processes.
  • Proven ability to prepare, follow, and improve SOPs.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical fabrication skills relevant to laboratory or chemical process equipment.
  • Familiarity with automation and control systems for laboratory equipment; ability to design and develop such systems is a plus.
  • Experience in analytical development, process development for materials manufacturing, or scale-up of novel processes is advantageous.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and collaborative skills; proactive in sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues to achieve team goals.
