Main Purpose:
The Carbon & Climate Change Manager plays an important role in taking forward carbon and climate change management activities that track and manage carbon emissions, across GEOAmey.
The post holder will provide ‘value-added’ technical, specialist carbon support.
Responsibilities:
- Providing specialist advice, being a ‘go to’ person for understanding, technical compliance and competence matters across carbon management.
- Ensure that the operational business is properly implementing the mandated GEOAmey requirements for carbon and climate change management.
- Supporting Operational Teams in reducing the carbon impact of our operations, embodying a collaborative approach, working with across disciplines and with Clients or key partners and Supply Chain members.
- Support and enable the maintenance of GEOAmey’s carbon regulatory and voluntary certifications and obligations.
Maintaining Professional Standards
- Stay abreast and track developments in legislation, regulation and industry best practice through an ongoing process of formal continuing professional development.
- Under direction of management take ownership of relevant processes, procedures and guidance documents, amending them as necessary to reflect best working practices.
- Work with team members to identify carbon and climate risks and opportunities, improving understanding of how our activities interact with the environment and determine effective operational control measures to mitigate significant impacts.
Engagement
- Develop briefings on carbon and climate change topics, changes in law and standards to enable information to be cascaded via the Operational Teams.
- Directly engage in the delivery of carbon and climate change training solutions tailored to the needs of the business where necessary to comply with customer requirements and/or corporate standards.
- Collaborate with other teams and enabling functions within the company to ensure that carbon reduction initiatives are aligned with broader sustainability goals.
- Active participation in industry associations groups and initiatives.
Assurance
- Apply specialist technical knowledge to observe and audit as necessary to identify areas of strength and weakness.
- Undertake carbon performance monitoring, analysis and evaluation, writing reports and making recommendations to our business leaders to drive continual improvement.
Work Winning, Bids, Mobilisations and De-mobilisations
- Under direction from the Senior Managers support Work Winning activities by ensuring that bidding teams incorporate GEOAmey’s strategy and approach to managing carbon compliance into bid submissions.
- Under direction from the Senior Managers provide guidance, advice and support to management teams to ensure that mobilisations and demobilisation take place in compliance with GEOAmey’s carbon management requirements.
- Contribute to the development of carbon case studies to help evidence and share best practice.

- Responsible for overseeing the carbon/climate change for a BU and/ or sector within GEOAmey.

Qualifications
- A degree or equivalent experience or qualification in carbon, climate change, environment or analytics
Skills
- Has an effective communication and influencing style able to work with all levels of the business.
- Works with diligence and professionalism and in doing so can command support and respect from peers and senior leaders.
- Strong IT, analytics, problem-solving, project management skills, able to multi-task when working under pressure.
- Translate technical requirements into everyday language and action.
Experience
- Experience of working in carbon reporting, systems and management – including GHG Protocol, ISO 14064 – ideally within the built environment/public infrastructure sector.
- Good IT, analytical, project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Personal Profile
Technical competencies
- Must have knowledge, understanding and experience with reporting standards such as GHG Protocol, ISO 14064,
- Knowledge, understand and experience and understanding in completing TCFD, SBTi, ESOS
- Ideally insight and experience in PAS 2080
Knowledge and understanding with sustainability standards and reporting frameworks, such as CSRD, GRI or CDP is a plus

Additional Information
- All roles within GEOAmey are subject to a risk assessment being completed to confirm the vetting status required for the applicant / job holder to undertake the duties of the role. This role has been risk assessed as requiring Ministry of Justice Enhanced Level 2 Clearance and Enhanced DBS.
- The job holder is required to complete the necessary paperwork to complete the vetting process. Any offers of employment are subject to the relevant vetting clearances being obtained. Security and Vetting Decisions are made by the Vetting Outcome Decision Makers at the MOJ Shared Service Centre and not by GEOAmey.
