We specialise in retrofit and sustainability, energy and compliance modelling, EPC improvement advice, and Net Zero auditing (inc. Whole Life Carbon Assessment). We help clients reduce the carbon impact of buildings through expert guidance on materials, systems, and retrofit strategies.
Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role as a Senior Energy & Sustainability Engineer, based in the London Area, United Kingdom, with some work-from-home flexibility. We are seeking a motivated Energy and Sustainability Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years experience in building performance modelling, energy assessments, overheating assessments, Net Zero asset auditing, and sustainable design strategies for commercial and domestic properties. The individual will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver effective low-carbon solutions and provide technical insights to improve energy performance in the built environment. Role activities:
- Autonomously prepare Energy and Sustainability Statements for planning
- Autonomously prepare Overheating Assessments and Mitigation Strategies (CIBSE TM52 and TM59) for planning
- Conduct CIBSE TM54 assessments for predicting a building's operational energy use
- Conduct dynamic simulation modelling using IES and other software
- Conduct CRREM and GRESB assessments for commercial properties and portfolios
- Conduct Whole Life Carbon Assessments using OneClick LCA
- Inspect buildings and conduct high-level Building Services condition surveys, using O&M information and visual assessment to determine age, type, specification, and anticipated life expectancy of core building services
- Produce SBEM, SAP, BRUKL, heat loss, and other Part L assessments and calculations for new and existing buildings
- Produce EPCs for commercial and domestic properties
- Coordinate and manage internal external teams to deliver reports and other outputs for clients, including setting briefs, securing consultant proposals, managing quality control and checking processes, and managing client feedback, reflection, and lessons learnt processes
- Build, calibrate, and manage IES VE models using ModelIT, Apache, and SunCast for concept through detailed design.
- Undertake complex optioneering assessments to determine optimal retrofit strategies
- Run dynamic thermal simulations and advise on HVAC options, ventilation strategies, and plant sizing
- Prepare clear technical reports and client-friendly summaries for planning submissions and design gateways
- Apply passive design, active design, and building physics principles to inform sustainable design and energy efficiency improvements of existing and new buildings
- Provide expert advice on carbon reduction strategies for new builds and retrofits
- Collaborate with project teams, clients, and consultants to integrate sustainability into development briefs
Qualifications
- Three subjects at A-Level or equivalent level of study
- Bachelors degree in relevant field
- Certified professional in IES Virtual Environment
- Certified Non-Domestic Energy Assessor (NDEA)
Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 4-8-years experience in energy and sustainability related roles
- Minimum of 4-years using IES VE on a regular (minimum weekly) basis
- Proven expertise in Energy Engineering and Energy Management practices
- Strong Analytical Skills to assess energy data and identify efficiency opportunities
- Experience in Mechanical Engineering and energy systems design and evaluation
- Strong understanding of building energy performance and sustainability standards
- Excellent problem-solving and project management skills
- Ability to work in a team and communicate technical concepts effectively
- Experience in low-carbon solutions or the construction industry is advantageous
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or a related field; relevant certifications are a plus
