Service Engineer (Switchgear)

Glasgow

£40,000 – £45,000 + Benefits


LTek Recruitment are working with a leading engineering business to recruit an experienced Service Engineer specialising in LV, MV and HV switchgear (up to 11kV).


This is a hands-on, field-based role offering the opportunity to work on complex projects across the UK and internationally, supporting high-profile clients within the power and energy sector.


The Role


As a Service Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering maintenance, repair and commissioning of switchgear equipment. You’ll be working both independently and as part of a team, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Maintenance, testing and repair of LV/MV/HV switchgear and circuit breakers
  • Fault finding and diagnostics on electrical systems
  • SF6 gas handling and replacement
  • Conducting site surveys and supporting installation/commissioning activities
  • Leading and supporting junior engineers on-site
  • Producing detailed service reports and project documentation
  • Ensuring strict adherence to health & safety procedures
  • Providing technical support to clients and maintaining strong relationships


This role will involve regular travel, including international assignments and occasional offshore work.


About You


We’re looking for a proactive and technically skilled engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.


Essential:


  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering
  • Completed apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Strong experience working with HV/LV switchgear
  • Field service experience
  • Solid fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing ability
  • Full UK driving licence


Desirable:


  • Experience with MV/HV circuit breakers (air, oil, vacuum)
  • Offshore or industrial site experience
  • Knowledge of Whipp & Bourne equipment
  • SF6 certification (or willingness to obtain)
