Service Engineer (Switchgear)
Glasgow
£40,000 – £45,000 + Benefits
LTek Recruitment are working with a leading engineering business to recruit an experienced Service Engineer specialising in LV, MV and HV switchgear (up to 11kV).
This is a hands-on, field-based role offering the opportunity to work on complex projects across the UK and internationally, supporting high-profile clients within the power and energy sector.
The Role
As a Service Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering maintenance, repair and commissioning of switchgear equipment. You’ll be working both independently and as part of a team, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintenance, testing and repair of LV/MV/HV switchgear and circuit breakers
- Fault finding and diagnostics on electrical systems
- SF6 gas handling and replacement
- Conducting site surveys and supporting installation/commissioning activities
- Leading and supporting junior engineers on-site
- Producing detailed service reports and project documentation
- Ensuring strict adherence to health & safety procedures
- Providing technical support to clients and maintaining strong relationships
This role will involve regular travel, including international assignments and occasional offshore work.
About You
We’re looking for a proactive and technically skilled engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
Essential:
- HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering
- Completed apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering
- Strong experience working with HV/LV switchgear
- Field service experience
- Solid fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication and customer-facing ability
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Experience with MV/HV circuit breakers (air, oil, vacuum)
- Offshore or industrial site experience
- Knowledge of Whipp & Bourne equipment
- SF6 certification (or willingness to obtain)
