Overview £30,000 – £45,000 plus benefits (dependent on level and experience)The Role An excellent opportunity has arisen for a junior costs professional to join a specialist Costs team within a well-established disputes practice. This role is ideal for someone at an early stage of their costs career who is keen to develop strong technical expertise while working on high-quality contentious matters.You will support fee earners across the wider business, assisting with the preparation, management and recovery of legal costs, while working closely with experienced costs professionals who will support your ongoing development.Key Responsibilities Assisting with the preparation of bills of costs, including detailed assessment bills, across a range of costs regimesSupporting senior costs professionals with Points of Dispute, Replies, schedules of costs and costs adviceAssisting with costs budgeting, budget monitoring and preparing updates or variationsHelping assess costs risk at various stages of litigation and providing guidance to fee earnersReviewing retainers, funding arrangements and costs correspondence to ensure procedural compliance, including solicitor–client disputesLiaising with fee earners across multiple disputes areas on costs-related issuesSupporting negotiations and settlements in relation to costsUndertaking legal research on costs law, CPR provisions and recent case lawMaintaining accurate records and assisting with internal costs reportingSupporting court deadlines, assessments and hearing preparationDeveloping knowledge of CPR, the Costs Practice Direction and relevant case law under supervisionAssisting with internal costs training initiatives as your experience developsExperience and Skills Previous costs experience, ideally gained within a law firm, costs agency or public sector environmentA clear ambition to qualify as a Costs Lawyer, either already enrolled on or willing to undertake the Costs Lawyer QualificationStrong written and verbal communication skillsHighly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage competing deadlinesProactive, motivated and able to work calmly under pressureStrong attention to detail and numerical accuracyConfident liaising with stakeholders at all levelsProficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)Flexible approach to workload and working hoursThe organisation is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
