We are seeking a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) to join our Outpatient Department at Newham University Hospital.

You will work closely with Junior Sisters, Charge Nurses, and Consultants to ensure patients receive timely consultations and high-quality clinical care.

This is a role for someone who:

Demonstrates compassion, transparency, honesty, and accountability

Is proactive and responsible, taking initiative to support patient care and clinic operations

Thrives in a team‐oriented, fast‐paced healthcare environment

Clinical Duties:

Perform routine patient observations (BP, pulse, temperature, respiration)

Conduct urine dipsticks and assist with simple dressings

Support minor diagnostic procedures including OCT, visual acuity tests, visual field tests, bladder scans, uroflow, and ENT clinic procedures

Assist in decontamination of equipment following infection control protocols

Maintain accurate patient records using CERNER or similar systems

Patient Care:

Provide compassionate support to patients and relatives

Uphold patient confidentiality, dignity, and respect at all times

Assist patients in navigating outpatient services efficiently

Operational Support:

Contribute to smooth outpatient clinic flow

Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team

Identify opportunities to improve service delivery

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths

Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office, databases)

Experience dealing with the public face‐to‐face and via telephone

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (QCF/RQF)

Certificate in Clinical Skills or Foundation Care Certificate
