Job description

Role PurposeThe Learning & Development Apprentice will support the effective delivery of training across the FPS Newcastle Site. This role ensures that all training activities—such as scheduling sessions, managing training systems, and coordinating logistics—run smoothly and professionally. The apprentice will also be trained on the company's competency management system, gaining valuable experience in workforce capability development.

This position is ideal for someone organised, proactive, and eager to start a career in Learning and Development.

Key ResponsibilitiesTraining Coordination & Administration

Manage all training bookings, including scheduling, room reservations, communications, and attendee lists.

Organise all logistical elements such as materials, equipment, meeting rooms, and access requirements.

Maintain accurate training records in line with site, audit, and regulatory requirements.

Manage the sites NDT Training Process including booking eye tests, managing certification and updating onsite NDT System

Training Systems Management

Support the maintenance and administration of digital training systems and learning platforms.

Ensure training records and data remain accurate, consistent, and compliant.

Provide basic troubleshooting and support to employees and managers using training systems.

Competency Management

Receive full training on the competency management system.

Assist in collecting, maintaining, and updating competency profiles for site employees.

Produce reports to support team leaders, trainers, and audit processes.

Operational Support

Prioritise changing business needs and adjust tasks as required in a fast‐paced environment.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the L&D function.

Communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders across the manufacturing site.

Apprenticeship QualificationAs part of the role, the apprentice will work towards a recognised Level 2 Business Administration Apprenticeship (or Level 3 depending on candidate experience).

Skills & Attributes RequiredEssential

Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.

Confident communicator, both written and verbal.

Ability to think on their feet, adapt, and pivot to changing business priorities.

Proactive, curious, and willing to learn new systems and processes.

Comfortable using IT systems (Microsoft Office 365 or similar).

Desirable

Interest in Learning & Development, or people‐focused work.

Previous experience in customer service, administration, or coordination roles.

An understanding of manufacturing environments.
