For further detail the pay circular is available via this link https://www.nhs.wales/files/pc-resources/afc-w-02-2026-pdf-pdf?ts=1773244958086Job OverviewWe are looking for a caring and conscientious Health Care Support Worker to join our Mental Health Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) based at St Cadocs Hospital. The PICU is a locked 9 bedded unit for males and females. Flexible working patterns are available, including the option for 12 hour shifts.

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and under the supervision of senior practitioners will assist in the provision of care and treatment to service users. The role of the Care Support worker is to provide support, give time to an allocated group of service users with complex needs and assist in programmes supporting their recovery during their stay on the unit. The post holder will assist the multi-disciplinary team in providing innovative approaches, which promote recovery and social inclusion for service users.

Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be expected to act at all times within the guidelines of the patient's care plan and within the supervision of senior support and or professional in charge.

Skills

Essential criteria: Able to work as part of a professional team; Able to communicate effectively using reassurance, persuasion and tact with patients; Ability to form positive therapeutic relationships with service users.

Desirable criteria: Basic IT skills; Good motivational skills.

Experience

Essential criteria: Meets all essential criteria as per attached job description/person specification.

Desirable criteria: Experience of working paid or voluntary with people in the provision of social, mental or similar care to people who require assistance in their every day life; Supporting service users in therapeutic activities, observing and evaluating effects of activity on individuals; Recording of information to support the assessment of health, needs and medical assistance.

Qualifications

Desirable criteria: Attendance in other in house training; Equivalent competencies achieved and evidenced through accredited courses.
