This may necessitate liaison with other University, community, local authority and statutory agencies as required. The ideal candidate will also be enthusiastic in developing and delivering individual or group support for students with mental health difficulties, in partnership with other relevant professionals, and contribute to a programme of mental health and wellbeing awareness and promotion.This is a fixed term (maternity cover), part time position (0.6 FTE), with the ideal candidate able to work 3 days per week. The Mental Health and Wellbeing team operates between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.Key ResponsibilitiesManaging a caseload of students requiring single-session or ongoing mental health support on a 1-1 basis.Completing thorough assessments of students' mental health and wellbeing support needs and signposting/referring as required.Participating in the rota of duty workers to respond to crisis issues or safeguarding concerns requiring a same-day response.Providing advice and guidance to students and staff on the provision and implementation of reasonable adjustments.Liaising with other University teams and departments as required to support students.Understanding and utilising referral systems to NHS and local authority services as required.First degree or equivalent, and a nursing, social work or other relevant health-related professional qualification.Significant experience of crisis management.Significant experience of working within a voluntary, community or statutory mental health setting.A sound understanding of the principles of Safeguarding and the ability to recognise and act upon a safeguarding concern.Significant experience of providing emotional support in a professional setting.An ability to work proactively and enthusiastically without detailed supervision.Sound written and oral communication skills with a wide variety of audiences.The ability to work in a student-centred way.A sound understanding of confidentiality / data protection issues.Experience of higher education or working with students or young people.Some counselling skills training.Experience of developing and delivering training on mental health issues.Experience in the development of mental health policies, procedures or protocols.An understanding of the principles of Single-Session Therapy.Good IT skills including MS Office suite, email / internet.Further InformationIf you are excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, we would love to hear from you.For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Keturah Akintunde at Keturah.Akintunde@bcu.ac.uk .The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company, BCU Support Services Limited , a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University.
