Lead Hardware Engineer – Edinburgh
A Lead Hardware Engineer is required to join a growing technology organisation developing advanced electronic systems and instruments. The Lead Hardware Engineer will take ownership of circuit design, architecture and delivery across multiple hardware projects. This Lead Hardware Engineer role offers hands‑on technical work while guiding a small multidisciplinary engineering team.
Responsibilities
• Lead hardware architecture, mixed signal circuit design, schematic design and PCB development across new product platforms
• Provide technical direction to engineers and contribute to design reviews, documentation and verification activities
• Oversee component selection, power distribution, signal integrity considerations and reliability analysis
• Support prototype build, hardware bring‑up, debugging and validation
• Drive continuous improvement across hardware processes, tools and design standards
Requirements
• Strong background in electronic hardware design for complex embedded systems
• Experience in schematic capture, PCB layout and hands‑on hardware validation
• Understanding of high‑speed digital, mixed‑signal or power electronics
• Ability to lead small teams and mentor junior engineers
• Familiarity with design for manufacture, compliance and product lifecycle considerations
• Degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline
