CHP Engineer (Field Service)

£40,000 – £50,000 (DOE)

Full-Time, Permanent

Working Hours:

40 hours per week + overtime


The Role:

We are seeking an experienced CHP Engineer to support the service, maintenance, and repair of Combined Heat and Power systems across London and the South East.

This is a field-based role involving both planned maintenance and reactive breakdown response, with occasional overnight stays. You will work independently while being supported by a strong technical and operational team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine servicing and maintenance on CHP units (typically 30kW – 500kW)
  • Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical and electrical repairs
  • Respond to breakdowns as a first-line engineer on-site
  • Perform engine overhauls and component replacements
  • Complete detailed service and site reports
  • Maintain strong communication with the service and operations teams
  • Ensure all work complies with health & safety regulations
  • Support commissioning and installation activities when required
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams
  • Identify opportunities for system improvements and efficiency


Key Skills & Experience:


  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience as a CHP Engineer or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of gas engines and CHP systems
  • Good electrical fault-finding skills (LV systems)
  • Familiarity with control systems such as ComAp or similar
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based role
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
  • Good communication and customer-facing ability
  • Flexible approach to travel and working away


Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent)
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable:

  • Gas Safe qualification (or willingness to obtain)
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Manufacturer training (e.g. MWM, CAT, Jenbacher)
  • Knowledge of control/monitoring software (e.g. ComAp, DSE)
