Planning Officer

Location: Stoke-on-Trent

Pay Rate: £50 per hour

Contract Type: Temporary / Contract

Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for a Planning Officer to join a busy and dynamic Planning Services team in Stoke-on-Trent. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional to play a key role in delivering high-quality development management services, supporting sustainable growth, and shaping local communities.

You will be responsible for assessing planning applications, providing expert advice, and contributing to regeneration and development projects across the area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional advice on planning law, policy, and guidance
  • Assess and determine planning applications, enforcement cases, and related submissions
  • Prepare clear, well-reasoned reports with recommendations
  • Conduct site visits and carry out research to support decision-making
  • Support local businesses with planning guidance to encourage growth and development
  • Contribute to regeneration and development initiatives
  • Present reports at committee meetings and stakeholder forums
  • Monitor planning conditions, obligations, and ongoing developments
  • Act as a professional witness at hearings, inquiries, or court proceedings where required
  • Engage with the public, developers, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication
  • Support team performance, service delivery, and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Degree in Town Planning or a related field (or equivalent)
  • Eligibility for membership with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)
  • Experience assessing or preparing planning applications
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and development management processes
  • Experience working with stakeholders such as developers, elected members, and the public
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and meet deadlines
  • Strong IT skills, including planning and document management systems
  • Full UK driving licence or ability to travel between sites
