Solicitor/Legal Executive - Indemnity Insurance


Location: St Albans (hybrid - 1 day per week in the office, Wednesdays)

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 + discretionary bonus up to 7.5%

Onboarding: Full-time office attendance for the first few weeks


My client is seeking a Solicitor to join its Indemnity Insurance team in St Albans. This role is primarily focused on defendant clinical negligence work, with additional involvement in inquests, regulatory matters (often instructing panel solicitors), and some employers’ and public liability claims. You will manage your own caseload and provide legal advice and claims handling support to NPA members and NPAI policy holders. You'll be joining a supportive team of six.


Key responsibilities:

  • Providing legal advice to members and policy holders
  • Managing claims in line with pre‑action protocols and the Civil Procedure Rules
  • Liaising with members, claimants, solicitors, experts, insurers and other stakeholders
  • Logging and assessing incident notifications
  • Investigating liability and communicating decisions
  • Collating medical evidence and assessing compensation
  • Formulating offers and negotiating settlements
  • Assessing and negotiating costs


Essential requirements:

  • Solicitor or CILEx with 2-3 years PQE
  • At least 2 years’ experience in clinical negligence, occupational disease or personal injury (defendant experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and pre‑action protocols
  • Good understanding of contract, tort, criminal law and civil procedure
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently
  • Excellent customer service, negotiation and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and confidence on the phone
  • Competent IT skills and ability to build relationships with pharmacy professionals


Desirable:

  • Experience in insurance or a medical defence organisation
