Structural Manager – Sunderland based or Chorley based

As the Structural Manager, you will take on the responsibility of setting clear technical direction, ensuring the highest standards of safety, code compliance, quality, and cost efficiency. You will be the cornerstone of a team dedicated to innovation, accuracy, and continuous improvement. You will also hold full line-management responsibilities for structural engineers and designers, helping to shape the next generation of talent in our industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Line Management: Manage and mentor structural engineers and designers across multiple sites, including recruitment, performance management, and career development.
  • Technical Excellence: Provide expert guidance and support, ensuring all deliverables (calculations, reports, models, etc.) meet industry standards and project specifications.
  • Project Integration: Collaborate with other engineering functions, ensuring smooth integration across teams and promoting a culture of accountability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead process development and drive efficiency in project delivery, implementing lessons learned and promoting value engineering, standardisation, and risk reduction.
  • Sub-Contractor Management: Oversee the quality of sub-contractor outputs and ensure compliance with the project scope.
  • Compliance & Quality: Ensure that all work aligns with ISO 9001 procedures, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.


Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (minimum BEng)
  • Chartered Engineer Status (preferably ICE or IStructE)
  • 10+ years of experience as a Structural Engineer
  • In-depth knowledge of bulk material handling, conveyor systems, and structural elements such as towers, gantries, silos, and retaining structures.
  • Strong proficiency in structural analytical software (STAAD Pro preferred).
  • Excellent understanding of structural codes, regulations, checking calculations, reports and analytical models.
  • Strong people management skills and the ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK – unable to offer sponsorship.


Desirable:

  • Experience managing a team and working in a leadership role.
