Location: Primarily remote, with 1 day per week in Manchester.

Contract Type: 12-Month Fixed Term Contract (FTC), with a view to go permanent

We are seeking a Senior Test Engineer with deep core Java expertise to join a critical government programme. This is an excellent opportunity to work on highly impactful projects while enjoying a flexible, collaborative environment.


Role Overview

The Senior Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of software products through a combination of automated testing, shift‑left practices, and non‑functional testing. This role blends strong technical skills with a quality‑first mindset, working closely with developers, product owners, and DevOps teams to embed testing throughout the delivery lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain automated test suites using Java or JavaScript.
  • Develop automation frameworks for functional, regression, API, and integration tests.
  • Ensure test execution is reliable, efficient, and integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering teams to embed testing early in the SDLC.
  • Contribute to CI/CD configurations (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps) to automate quality gates.
  • Perform early analysis of requirements and acceptance criteria to prevent defects rather than detect them late.



Skills & Experience Required

  • Active SC clearance preferred, but SC Eligibility accepted.
  • Proven experience with Java and or JavaScript.
  • Exposure to and capabilities maintaining automated test suites.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
  • Previous experience working within central government company, agency or framework(s),
