Job description
A leading global law firm is seeking to expand its competition litigation practice with the hire of a specialist associate. The team is widely recognised as one of the UK’s foremost defence-side competition litigation groups, with a particularly strong reputation for collective proceedings, complex multi-jurisdictional damages actions and carriage disputes before the Competition Appeal Tribunal.

- Particularly active in collective actions at both certification and substantive stages
- Renowned for complex procedural and carriage disputes
- Regular advocacy before the CAT, CMA and European Commission

The team advises a diverse client base, including Fortune and FTSE companies, regulators and national governments, and covers the full spectrum of contentious and non-contentious competition and trade matters.
Scope of Work
- Private enforcement and appeals in the High Court and CAT
- Follow-on and standalone damages claims
- Collective proceedings before the CAT
- Cartel and behavioural investigations
- Merger control and antitrust advisory
- State aid, public procurement, WTO and international trade matters
Growth Hire
- This is a team expansion, not a replacement role
- A small number of candidates are already in process
- The team is focused on securing top-end quality, rather than filling an urgent gap

- Strong academic background (2:1 or equivalent; exams passed first time)
- Hands-on competition litigation experience in the High Court and/or CAT
- Experience of CAT collective actions is highly desirable
- Proactive, self-starting and comfortable managing complex workstreams
- Strong interpersonal skills and an interest in mentoring junior lawyers
The Role Will Involve
- Defending large-scale damages actions in the High Court and CAT
- Managing multi-jurisdictional competition claims
- Acting as lead lawyer on appropriate matters with partner oversight
- Supervising, delegating and mentoring junior associates and trainees
- Advising on complex technical competition issues
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships
- Contributing to business development, training and wider firm initiatives
Recent Matters Include
- Advising Meta on a proposed collective action alleging abuse of dominance
- Acting for Google in multiple CAT and European damages claims
- Advising Google on a collective action relating to ad tech tools
- Defending Amazon in collective proceedings relating to the Buy Box
- Acting as European coordinating counsel in Trucks cartel follow-on claims
- Advising financial institutions on FX litigation following Commission findings
Working Pattern & Hours
- Hybrid working model with approximately 60% of time in the office
- Target hours of 1,800 annually
This role offers exposure to some of the most significant competition litigation currently before the UK courts, within a globally recognised team known for its technical strength, advocacy capability and high-profile client base.
