Job Title: Costs Associate – Injury Department

Reporting To: Costs Director

Location: London


Purpose of Role:


We are seeking a qualified Costs Associate to provide expert advice and support on cost-related matters within the Injury Department for our client who are a Top City Law Firm. The role involves both advisory and hands-on work, ensuring efficient costs management across a range of matters.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Prepare cost breakdowns for negotiation and settlement discussions
  • Advise internally on cost issues and cost strategies
  • Draft cost budgets and manage ongoing budget monitoring
  • Attend Cost Management Hearings and support advocacy where required
  • Prepare formal bills of costs and manage detailed assessment processes
  • Liaise with external Cost Lawyers, providing in-house oversight as needed
  • Provide guidance on cost offers and drafting of retainer/funding documents
  • Delegate and supervise work of paralegals appropriately
  • Collaborate with Cost Lawyers, Cost Draftsmen, and Litigation fee earners
  • Share costs law updates and write internal knowledge articles
  • Deliver in-house training on cost-related matters
  • Support departmental business planning initiatives
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as required


Job Skills / Experience


  • Qualified Costs Lawyer with relevant experience in a similar role
  • Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise workload effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to deadlines
  • Commercially aware, proactive, and client-focused
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong team player with ability to mentor and supervise others
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, professionalism, and reliability
