Commercial Manager – M&E

GEDON™ | Commercial & Executive Search for the Built Environment is looking for a Commercial Manager – M&E

Job description

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Our client is a specialist mechanical and electrical contractor with a well-established reputation for delivering technically complex, high-value building services projects across the UK and Europe. With particular strength in the mission critical sector, they are recognised across the industry as a trusted delivery partner for clients operating in data-intensive, infrastructure-heavy and highly regulated environments.

The business has grown significantly in recent years, driven by increasing demand for its specialist capabilities and a strong pipeline of secured work. They operate at the higher end of the M&E contracting market, consistently winning and delivering schemes of significant scale and technical complexity that require both engineering expertise and commercial precision.

With a clear focus on innovation and technical excellence, the company continues to invest in its people, processes and systems to remain at the forefront of the sector. This is a business that takes its commercial function seriously — recognising the critical role it plays in protecting margin, managing risk and supporting long-term client relationships.

The culture is professional, ambitious and collaborative. Senior hires are given real ownership of their remit and supported by capable leadership teams with the experience and vision to match their own.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PROJECTS

You will be joining a high-performing commercial team working across a portfolio of mission critical and technically demanding M&E projects, primarily based in London with additional exposure to European schemes. These are large-scale, fast-paced projects with significant commercial complexity — requiring a sharp, strategic approach to cost management, risk and contract administration.

The business fosters a culture of ownership and accountability, where commercial managers are expected to lead from the front and take responsibility for outcomes across their project portfolio. You will work closely with project directors, engineering leads and senior clients, giving you broad exposure to all phases of delivery from pre-construction through to final account settlement.

Projects within the mission critical space — including data centres and advanced infrastructure environments — are technically demanding and commercially significant. You will be managing substantial subcontract packages, overseeing procurement and playing a central role in maintaining commercial discipline across complex, multi-disciplinary programmes.

The London office provides a strong base, with European project work offering additional variety and exposure for those looking to operate across international environments. This is a genuinely exciting commercial role within a business operating at the top of its specialist field.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the full commercial management function across a portfolio of mission critical M&E projects from award through to final account
  • Develop and implement commercial strategy across projects, ensuring margin protection, risk mitigation and cost control at all stages
  • Manage and administer M&E subcontract packages, including procurement, tendering, valuation and account settlement
  • Oversee change management processes, including the identification, valuation and negotiation of variations and claims
  • Produce accurate and timely cost reporting, forecasting and CVR submissions for internal and client review
  • Support and mentor a team of commercial staff including quantity surveyors and commercial managers at various levels
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, legal teams and senior stakeholders
  • Ensure commercial compliance with contract terms, company procedures and relevant industry standards throughout project delivery

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Extensive experience in a senior commercial role within an M&E or specialist building services contracting environment
  • Proven track record of managing commercial performance across complex, high-value projects — ideally within mission critical, data centre or advanced infrastructure sectors
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract, subcontract administration and commercial governance frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop commercial teams, driving performance and professional development across the function
  • Commercially astute with a sharp understanding of risk, margin management and project forecasting
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills — confident engaging at client, board and supply chain level
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline; MRICS or working towards is advantageous

WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN

This role offers a compelling package for an experienced M&E commercial professional ready to step into a high-impact senior position. You will receive a £120,000 basic salary alongside an attractive performance-based bonus scheme that reflects the seniority and contribution expected at this level.

Beyond remuneration, this is an opportunity to shape commercial outcomes on genuinely complex and high-profile projects, working alongside talented engineers and project professionals within a business that is growing strongly and investing in its people. London-based with European exposure, this is a role that offers both stability and variety for a commercially ambitious professional.
