Product Design Manager

bloom is looking for a Product Design Manager

Job description

Senior Product Design Manager (Very hands on with impactful IC work)

Package up to £130,000 + meaningful long-term equity

London - 2/3 days in-office

Bloom is working with a consumer app that genuinely has a fanbase - not just users. We're talking 76,000+ reviews averaging 4.9 stars, a spot among Apple's top three global App of the Year finalists in 2024, and a 2025 acquisition by one of the biggest names in their space.

The result? A small, ambitious design team with disproportionate impact, now supercharged with the resources and reach of a major platform behind them. It's rare to find a role where the scrappy startup energy is still very much alive - but the commercial firepower has just got a whole lot bigger.

We're looking for a Senior Design Manager who genuinely wants both sides of this job. Someone who gets energy from developing other designers and from doing great design work themselves - not one or the other.

What the job actually involves

You'll take ownership of design across one of the product's most critical areas, spanning iOS, Android, and Apple Watch. Alongside your own IC contribution, you'll be responsible for two product designers - helping them grow, giving them clear direction, and making the team's output stronger collectively.

Day-to-day you'll sit right at the intersection of product, engineering, and the people who actually use the app. That means collaborating closely with founders and PMs, but also getting into the weeds of complex UX challenges and delivering interfaces that feel genuinely effortless to use.

If you're drawn to purely strategic or people-management work, this probably isn't the right fit. The expectation and the opportunity is to stay deeply involved in the craft.

The kinds of problems you'll work on

  • Growing a small design team

Two direct reports who need regular, honest feedback and a manager who's invested in where their careers go - not just what they ship this sprint.

  • Setting design direction for a core product area

This squad owns some of the most-used features in the product. You'll set the strategic vision and make sure the execution lives up to it.

  • Doing the detailed work yourself
  • Microinteractions, animations, haptics - the things that separate a product people tolerate from one they rave about. You'll care about these details and have the skills to execute on them.

    • Prototyping and building the case for ideas
  • Strong opinions need strong communication. You'll prototype early and present ideas in a way that brings stakeholders with you.

    What we're looking for

    • A track record of leading or managing designers, while keeping your own design skills sharp
    • Broad design range - UX thinking, visual quality, interaction detail, and accessibility awareness
    • Someone who genuinely enjoys talking to users and lets those conversations shape decisions
    • Advanced Figma skills and an appetite for new tools (including AI-powered ones)
    • Comfortable moving fast and making good calls with incomplete information

  • Extra information
