The Role

 As a Senior Structural Engineer at EMI Consulting, you will lead and manage engineering teams — from early concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction. You'll take ownership of project delivery across residential and commercial schemes, providing technical leadership and ensuring designs are safe, efficient, and buildable.


You will:

✅ Structural Design & Analysis

  • Lead structural design across a range of projects including new builds, extensions, refurbishments, and conversions.
  • Carry out structural calculations and analysis for foundations, frames, floors, and retaining structures.
  • Produce and oversee detailed structural drawings and specifications for building control and construction.


✅ Project Coordination & Technical Input

  • Manage projects from inception to completion, coordinating with architects, contractors, and clients.
  • Review and check the work of junior engineers, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare and manage structural reports, specifications, and engineering documentation.


✅ Collaboration & Client Engagement

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and design teams.
  • Attend site visits, project meetings, and design reviews.
  • Contribute to business development and help grow client relationships.


About You

✔ Experience

  • Chartered or near-chartered Structural Engineer (CEng with IStructE or ICE, or working towards).
  • Minimum 5+ years of structural engineering experience in a UK consultancy.
  • Proven track record delivering residential and commercial projects is essential.
  • Residential and commercial design experience is a must have.

✔ Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; familiarity with Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Suite is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of Eurocodes and UK structural design standards.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to lead teams and manage client relationships.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

✔ Development-Oriented

  • Interested in contributing to team development and mentoring junior staff.

Location

This is an office-based role located at our North London office.
