Job description
Senior Business Development Manager – Rail Technology
- Hybrid – South East
- £65,000–70,000 Basic Salary
- 20% Bonus + strong benefits
The Company:
A technology-led engineering business bringing high-performance, mission-critical systems into the rail sector. Unlike traditional rail suppliers, they are entering the market with proven technology developed in other industries and are now scaling their presence.
This is not a role where you inherit an established pipeline or existing accounts. Instead, you will be responsible for creating opportunity from the ground up, breaking into accounts where incumbents are already embedded, and building demand where none currently exists.
The Job:
Your mandate is to build a credible pipeline from the ground up within the rail sector, winning new logos rather than growing existing accounts. You will be expected to break into accounts where incumbent suppliers are already established, creating and shaping opportunities long before they reach formal tender stage.
Success in this role will be measured by your ability to originate deals, not inherit them. You should be able to demonstrate where you have created opportunities from scratch, influenced stakeholders during the pre-tender phase, and ultimately converted complex, multi-stakeholder engagements into long-term, multi-year contracts.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing:
- Targeting rail operators, OEMs and infrastructure organisations.
- Leading C-level conversations.
- Building relationships long before procurement starts.
- Owning and driving bids, tenders and frameworks.
- Managing 12–24 month sales cycles without losing momentum.
- Positioning solutions into new applications / use cases.
The Profile Of Person Required:
.
We are looking for someone who can prove they are a sales hunter within the Rail Connectivity sector.
You must be able to demonstrate:
- New logos you’ve personally won in the rail sector.
- Examples of building pipeline from scratch.
- Evidence of breaking into accounts with existing suppliers.
- Your role in winning bids / tenders (not just supporting them).
- Situations where you’ve taken a product/service into a new customer or market.
If you enjoy proving people wrong, opening doors others can’t, and turning “no chance” into signed deals, you’ll feel right at home here. This is for someone who thrives on building something from nothing and winning where it actually counts.
