Commercial Manager – Energy & Civil Engineering Projects

Colchester - Project runs from Tilbury to Norwich - Hybrid options

Tier One Contractor | Permanent |

Salary - Up to £95,000 per annum plus additional benefits


About the Company

Our client is a leading Tier One contractor delivering large-scale infrastructure and energy projects across Ireland and the UK. With a strong pipeline in renewable energy, utilities, and major civil engineering works, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead their commercial function on key projects.


The Role

As a Commercial Manager, you will take full responsibility for the commercial performance of major energy and civil engineering projects. You will lead the commercial team, oversee contract strategy, and ensure robust cost control and risk management across the project lifecycle.

This role requires strong experience working under NEC contracts, particularly within complex infrastructure or energy environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of projects from tender through to final account
  • Oversee and administer contracts under NEC (NEC3/NEC4) frameworks
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies to maximise project profitability
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities
  • Oversee procurement strategy, subcontractor selection, and contract negotiation
  • Manage variations, compensation events, and change control processes
  • Provide leadership and direction to QS and commercial teams
  • Act as the key commercial interface with clients and senior stakeholders


Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
  • 10+ years’ experience, ideally within civil engineering or energy/infrastructure projects
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (essential)
  • Proven experience in a senior commercial role with a Tier One or large main contractor
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale, complex projects (utilities, renewables, or heavy civils preferred)
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent commercial and financial acumen
