C&I Engineer (Control & Instrumentation)

Near Basingstoke, UK (on-site role)


Overview

I am currently recruiting for a Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join our client at a gas storage facility near Basingstoke. This is an exciting opportunity to work on critical energy infrastructure, supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of control systems within a high-integrity environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop control and instrumentation systems for gas storage operations
  • Produce and review technical documentation including P&IDs, control philosophies, and loop drawings
  • Support installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, and electrical engineers
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting and system optimisation
  • Participate in hazard studies (e.g., HAZOP, SIL assessments) where required


Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in the design of instrumentation and control systems
  • Strong understanding of control system architecture, field instrumentation, and industrial communication protocols
  • Experience working in hazardous area environments (e.g., oil & gas, energy, or similar sectors)


Candidates must meet at least ONE of the following criteria:

  • Hold CompEx 12A and 12B certification
  • Be Functional Safety certified (e.g. TÜV or equivalent)
  • Demonstrate experience across the full lifecycle of control systems (design, implementation, commissioning, and operation)


Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Familiarity with PLC/SCADA/DCS systems
  • Knowledge of IEC standards and functional safety lifecycle
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
